All of your Nursery Admission Questions Answered...

When can my child start Nursery?

You can apply for a Nursery place at any time. Nursery admissions are managed directly by Gendros Primary School.

Children can normally start Nursery as soon as possible after their third birthday, subject to a place being available. The exact start date will be discussed and agreed with you by the school.

Please note that the availability of a Nursery place may depend on the number of places already allocated within our Nursery.

How does our Nursery provision work?

Our Nursery operates on a 3-day / 2-day attendance pattern:

  • Second-year Nursery children generally attend for three days each week.
  • First-year Nursery children generally attend for two days each week.

The days your child attends will be discussed with you when their place is offered and will depend on the availability of places.

You can view our Nursery Timetable below for more information about the organisation of our sessions.

Is there a charge for Nursery?

No. There is no charge to parents for your child's place in our school Nursery.

Our Nursery provision forms part of the funded nursery education available to eligible 3 and 4-year-olds in Wales.

If you are eligible for the Welsh Government's Childcare Offer for Wales, it is important to be aware that your child's nursery education hours form part of the overall funded provision available to you. During term time, the Childcare Offer provides up to 30 hours a week through a combination of nursery education and funded childcare. The amount of additional childcare available will depend on the number of nursery education hours provided.

For further information about eligibility and how the Childcare Offer works, please visit:

You can also contact Swansea Family Information Service for advice about childcare options and funding.

How do I apply?

Applying for a place is simple. Please complete our Nursery Application Form below and return it to the school.

If you have any questions about applying, please contact the school office on 01792 586570. We will be happy to talk you through the process.

What happens after I apply?

Once we receive your application, we will contact you to discuss your child's place and, where possible, agree a suitable start date.

Before your child starts, we will provide you with information about:

  • your child's Nursery days and sessions
  • settling-in arrangements
  • what your child will need to bring
  • lunch and snack arrangements
  • toileting and personal care
  • uniform and clothing
  • how we communicate with parents and carers
  • how you can support your child's transition into Nursery.

We understand that starting Nursery is a big step for children and families. We will work closely with you to ensure that your child feels safe, happy, confident and ready to learn.

What if there isn't a place available?

If there is not a suitable place available when you apply, we will discuss the options with you and explain when a place may become available.

What about Reception?

A Nursery place at Gendros does not automatically guarantee a place in our Reception class.

Admissions for Reception and all other main school year groups are managed by the Local Authority (LA) rather than directly by Gendros Primary School.

Parents and carers will be informed when the application process opens and closes. Applications are completed online through the Local Authority admissions portal.

The Local Authority will process applications and parents will be notified by email in April of the outcome of their application.

Please remember that attending Gendros Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in our Reception class. A separate application must be made through the Local Authority.

We will provide parents with reminders and information about the Reception application process when the relevant application period approaches.
